Biography
CRUSH are back – and more impressive than ever. What began in the mid-90s as an ambitious hard rock project has now evolved into a powerful comeback with national ambitions, a fresh sound and a clear vision: to conquer the stages once again.
Founded in 1994 by Omar Borrini and Patrick Moser, CRUSH quickly established itself as a fixture on the Swiss rock scene. Together with other band members, including Fritz Hunkeler, the band rapidly built up a loyal fanbase with their high-energy live shows.
The next milestone followed in 1996 with their debut album ‘Appetizer’. The ballad ‘Where175’ in particular became one of the band’s most-played radio hits in Switzerland and brought CRUSH to prominence even beyond the country’s borders. With the arrival of frontman Tommy Lion in 1997, an international breakthrough seemed within reach. A record deal with a London-based label was already on the table. However, differing visions for the band’s future led to its surprise break-up later that same year.
For over two decades, things had been quiet around CRUSH until 2018, when founding members Omar Borrini, Fritz Hunkeler and Patrick Moser made their comeback. The response was overwhelming, and the band picked up seamlessly where they’d left off. But that momentum was brought to an abrupt halt: the coronavirus pandemic forced CRUSH to cancel all their planned concerts. Despite intensive rehearsals and new songs, the path back to the stage remained blocked and the band’s future was once again uncertain.
But CRUSH once again demonstrated their resilience. Fritz Hunkeler and Patrick Moser held fast to their vision and reorganised the band. They experimented with various musicians and singers, and developed new ideas. In March 2024, CRUSH found the perfect frontwoman in Claudia Magdalena Puhl.
The German singer not only brings an unmistakable, powerful voice to the table, but also a stage presence that immediately captivates the audience. With her energy, passion and professionalism, she takes the band to a whole new level and lends both existing songs and new compositions a very special intensity.
The line-up is rounded off by a crisp and energetic rhythm section featuring Martin Frei on bass and Urs Scheu on drums. Together, CRUSH now form a well-rehearsed unit with tremendous impact.
The band is currently working intensively on new material, collaborating with nationally and internationally renowned musicians such as Eric St. Michaels (King Zebra, ex-China). Fans can look forward to fresh, powerful songs that build on the classic CRUSH sound whilst introducing new elements.
The next milestones have already been set: Studio recordings are in their final stages and the release of a new album in autumn 2026 is in the pipeline. Live performances from autumn 2026 onwards will also mark the long-awaited return to the stage – with a new, varied set list that combines old favourites with brand-new tracks and is sure to deliver unforgettable concert moments. An often unseen but indispensable member of the band ensures the perfect sound: in-house technician Franz Christen. With his keen ear for sound and attention to detail, he guarantees a powerful and perfectly balanced sound at every gig.
CRUSH are more than just back – they’re ready for the next chapter. Louder, stronger and more uncompromising than ever before.
